WORK EXPERIENCE
Self-employed • San Diego · Remote • 04/2022 - Present
DevOps Platform Engineering Contractor

After the acquisition of PatientSafe Solutions by Vocera Communications, and subsequently,
the acquisition of Vocera Communications by Stryker within a year, I recognized an
opportunity to explore new horizons. During this transitional phase, I was contracted for a
year to facilitate the smooth handover from my previous role at Vocera to the incoming
Stryker team. My responsibilities included providing comprehensive training sessions,
creating video and written documentation, and offering troubleshooting assistance. I also
rewrote old Ansible playboks into newer style ones that utilized tags to control the processes
better.
I spearheaded the development of a robust backend infrastructure for a hosting company,
streamlining the processes of node deployment. Leveraging scripting languages and
Ansible automation, I engineered a system that enabled seamless addition and removal of
services from Nagios monitoring software. Furthermore, I established a MySQL database to
centralize node details, facilitating integration with a user-friendly web interface. I ensured
the continuity of operations through detailed documentation and a thorough hand-off to
front-end developers.
I have been learning blockchain technologies and currently manage masternode and
validator software to participate in the decentralized infrastructure of these systems. I
automated the setup and system upgrades with Ansible. I also setup monitoring of all
systems with Nagios monitoring software.

Sr Manager of DevOps Platform Engineering

Utilizing the Ansible automation platform with Jenkins for easy job runs, I created processes
to automate the deployment, upgrades and configuration of semi custom servers and
clusters. These tools resulted in reduced downtime and standardized configurations across
servers.
Managed AWS setup, including Virtual Private Clouds, EC2 virtual servers, Citrix ADC Load
Balancers, Transit Gateways, Route 53 DNS multi-zone configurations, and RDS, enhancing
scalability and reliability.
My team and I implemented SCM build automation scripts within a multi-server Jenkins
environment, facilitating continuous integration for various platforms, Apple macOS & iOS,
Android, Linux, and Windows, resulting in improved development efficiency.
My team and I maintained a virtual infrastructure on RedHat/CentOS and Oracle Linux
servers, including packaging RPMs and other installers, creating VMware OVA & AWS AMI
images, and managing upgrades/patches, ensuring system integrity and security.
We provided DevOps support to internal departments by setting up and maintaining build
servers, development and QA test servers, DNS, package repositories, SVN/Git, AD, and other
supporting services, optimizing workflow efficiency and collaboration.

Director Of DevOps Platform Engineering

I started as a contractor and worked my way up through senior platform engineer, then to
DevOps Manager and Director before being acquired by Vocera Communications.
I spearheaded the development and upkeep of scripts for continuous integration within a
multi-server Jenkins environment, facilitating the seamless building of packages for Apple
macOS & iOS, Android, Linux, and Windows platforms.
I pioneered the implementation of fully automated deployments via Ansible, orchestrating
the setup from inception. Proactively manage and enhance scripts for Puppet configuration
management servers to ensure streamlined operations.
My team and I oversaw the upkeep of the virtual infrastructure supporting our product. This
routine encompassed the maintenance and creation of RedHat & CentOS Linux servers,
packaging RPMs and other installers, crafting VMware OVA files, configuring firewalls,
executing upgrades and patches, and proficiently managing associated scripts.
We provided comprehensive assistance to internal departments, including developers, SQA,
tech ops, and tech support in establishing and sustaining essential infrastructure
components. These tasks involved setting up and managing build servers, development and
QA test environments, DNS configurations, package repositories, and auxiliary services.
Everyone Counts, Inc. • San Diego • 06/2011 - 11/2012
Senior Platform Engineer

I managed the design, setup, and maintenance of production server environments across
global data centers. I spearheaded enhancements to Linux clustering, load balancing,
firewalls, backup systems, and system automation, resulting in optimized operations. With a
team of two, we deployed over 200 servers within the past year, facilitating numerous
elections across various countries.
Everyone Counts focused on electronic voting solutions via online and mobile polling
stations. We notably orchestrated the hosting of online voting for the U.S. 2012 General
Elections for disabled and UOCAVA voters, as well as the Academy Awards (Oscars) 2013.
